2018 Classic Car Show Roars Into Action At Kyrenia’s Antique Harbour

Classic car lovers gave their pride and joy an extra coat of polish and slipped into top gear heading for Kyrenia’s picturesque antique harbour, as it played host to the cities finest classic and sports car show last Sunday.  Bursting with colour and accompanied by the symphony of some finely tuned engines, you didn’t have to be an expert to appreciate and enjoy the spectacular collection of cars displayed thoughtfully around the oldest horse shoe shaped harbour in the Mediterranean.  The popular annual event  has been running since 1992 in joint collaborations with The North Cyprus Classic and Sports Automobile Club, The North Cyprus Mercedes-Benz Club, The Classic American Automobile Club, The Near East University and Kyrenia Municipality. The 2018 show proved to be another great success with enthusiasts sharing their knowledge alongside locals and tourists simply stopping to reminisce, admire, pose for a photo or ask the proud owner a question or two. With over 50 cars participating Kyrenia Mayor Nidai Güngördü praised the professionalism and effort of everybody involved. North Cyprus Classic and Sports Automobile Club joint founder and President of The North Cyprus Mercedes-Benz Club, Tamer Konat believes it’s a great way to bring the many communities we have living on our island together, through the common appreciation of cars. This years guests of honour included United Kingdom MG Club President Bob Featherstone and Joint founder and Honorary president of The North Cyprus Classic and Sports Automobile Club, Çetin Gürçağ.  Representing The the Near East University were enthusiasts Dr Aslı Aykaç and Dr Kaya Süer who received complimentary commemorative plaques from the club on behalf of the University. For anyone who isn’t aware the University has a rich, varied and wonderful classic car Museum located within its Lefkosa Campus, which is open daily to the public.
